Vesko Petrovic's side revived promotion hopes beating Ghaxaq in an entertaining match.
The Greens fielded a reshaped side after last week's defeat against Fgura and had Jonathan Ebejer, Alan Zahra, Johann Said and Keith Caruana missing with Karl Vella, Albert Aquilina, Matthew Muscat and Russell Marmara starting the match.

Mgarr took the lead after 2 minutes when Chris Tabone who had a great match released Chris Abela who beat the keeper with a low drive. Five minutes later Chris Abela found himself free with the keeper to beat but this time the bar came to the rescue for Ghaxaq. Mgarr kept pressing and the Ghaxaq mentor kept his cool on an effort by Matthew Muscat.

The second half saw both sides pressing for the goal and in the 50th minute Mgarr United doubled the lead when Matthew Muscat beautifully lobbed the ball past the Ghaxaq keeper to make it 2-0. Ghaxaq reacted and where awarded a penalty after Malcolm Bugeja was judged to have fouled an Ghaxaq forward in the area. The resulting penalty hit the bar and kept the score line intact until the 70 minute when an Ghaxaq forward beat keeper James Borg with a header. In the 75th minute Matthew Muscat had to go off with angle injury. The Greens controlled the game well until the end and had another scoring opportunity through Chris Abela saved by the Ghaxaq keeper in the final minutes.
