Vesko Petrovic' side have brushed aside woodenspoonists Mtarfa in a lively match in which Mtarfa finished the match with nine players.
The first period saw Mgarr going close through Chris Abela and Matthew Muscat with Mtarfa reponding with a rare counter attack.The Greens managed to take the lead in the 30th minute when Matthew Muscat beat the Mtarfa keeper with a diagonal volley shot. Mtarfa where reduced to 10 men when an Mtarfa defender made a last man foul, from the resulting free kick Chris Abela saw his effort going high.
The second half Mgarr adding the second through Chris Abela with Mtarfa responding immediately reducing the arrears with an effort from just inside the box. Mgarr regained the two goal lead ten minutes later when debutant Alan Zahra (photo) lobbed the Mtarfa keeper to make it 3-1. Mgarr kept pressing and Matthew Muscat marked his second when served by Chris Abela. On the 85th minute mark Chris Abela was brought down in the area by the Mtarfa keeper. The Mtarfa keeper was sent off and Abela converted the kick from the penalty to mark his second of the game.
Leaders Pembroke Athleta maintained a four point lead over second-placed Ghaxaq as both registered wins. Pembroke defeated Kalkara 1-0 while Ghaxaq beat Sirens 2-1. Santa Lucia stay in third place thanks to a 4-1 win over Qrendi, Marsa defeated Marsaskala 1-0. Fgura United lost 1-2 to Xghajra Tornados and Mdina Knights beat Swieqi United 1-0.
Pembroke lead the way with 31 points, followed by Ghaxaq on 27, Santa Lucia 22, Mgarr and Mdina 21, Fgura 20, Xghajra 18, Swieqi 15, Sirens 10, Qrendi 9, Marsaskala 8, Marsa 6, Mtarfa 4 and Kalkara 3.
